  • 2 base pieces, 1 slightly smaller than the other. Mine are 6 ¾” square and 5 ½” square.
  • 1 Post, I use a 2×2 cut to 24” tall. You can purchase a decorative spindle at a lumber store.
  • Coat hook or Drawer pull.
  • Wood Glue
  • Wood Screw Long enough to go through your bases and embed into the post at least an inch.
  • Drill and drill bits
  • Stain and or Paint
  • Optional: Finale for the top

Step 1: Find the center of the base pieces. I drew diagonal lines with a ruler from corner to corner to quickly find the center.
Then drill a hole smaller than the wood screw you are using.
Tip: If you don’t have wood at home, you can purchase wood plaques from any craft stores such as Hobby Lobby or Micheals and get really creative with different shapes.

Step 2: Using the same method as above to find the center, drill a hole in the center of the bottom of the post. Optional: If adding a finale to the top, drill a hole at the top of the post too.
Step 3: Apply glue to the smaller base and the bottom of the post and screw from the bottom through all the pieces. The base(s) may spin slightly as you screw in so go slow and hold them tight. It may be helpful to have a second set of hands to hold it all while you screw. Countersink the screw so your stand sits flat on the surface.

Step 4: Finish with paint or stain of your choosing. I stained my first then dry brushed white paint on to give it a rustic distressed look.

Step 5: Measure down from the top where you want the hook or knob. Screw in the hook. If using a knob, drill a hole slightly bigger than the knob’s screw and screw the knob in from the back.
